Flat fees Vs. Interchange Plus: what's the difference?

GoSolo offers clear, transparent pricing to help your business grow.
Interchange Plus is the payment industry's best-kept secret. It allows huge fee savings but is usually available only to large corporations. GoSolo lets you accept payments the same way Meta, Uber, and Netflix do to keep your costs low.

Here's how it works

Interchange Plus pricing means you get the lowest possible interchange rate for each payment. GoSolo passes on the true cost for each payment you take and adds our limited margin to pay for our service.
No hidden fees or surprises.
You only pay for what you process, and that's it.

What Is Interchange Plus Pricing

1. The Interchange — the base cost of every card transaction

This is the non-negotiable fee set by the payment ecosystem. It includes:

  • Bank fees (set by the cardholder’s bank) — usually 0.2% for debit and 0.3% for consumer (personal) credit cards in the UK. Close to 95% of all card payments in the UK are used with these card types.
  • Scheme fees charged by Visa or Mastercard for using their networks.
  • Processing costs to securely authorise and complete the payment, handled by our partner Adyen, a global leader trusted by companies like Uber and Meta.

There are other card types where costs could be higher. Corporate cards and schemes, such as American Express (Amex) and Discover, charge higher Interchange rates. Additionally, cards issued abroad may incur currency conversion fees. However, these cards are pretty rare and constitute a minority of all payments received for most businesses.

What Is Interchange Plus Pricing

2. The Plus – our fixed GoSolo margin

Unlike most providers who bundle everything into a flat fee and keep the difference, GoSolo simply adds a clear, fixed markup: 0.5% + 20p per transaction.
That’s it.
No hidden fees. No unpredictable percentages. You know exactly what you’re paying us — and most of your payment stays in your pocket.
Why does this matter?

  • You pay only for what you process
  • Our margin is lower than Stripe, PayPal or most high-street banks
  • The more you earn, the more you save

We keep our margin small, so your business keeps more of its revenue.

Why choose GoSolo + Interchange Plus pricing?

Businesses across various industries will benefit from significant savings by switching to GoSolo’s Interchange Plus model.

  • Transparency. Unlike flat-rate pricing models that bundle all fees into a single rate, Interchange Plus provides a clear breakdown of costs, allowing you to see exactly what you're paying for each transaction.
  • Cost savings. Many businesses find that paying the actual bank and scheme fees plus a fixed markup saves them money compared to flat-rate models, especially as their transaction volume grows.
  • Reliability. GoSolo has partnered with Adyen, the company that processes payments for Netflix, Uber, Spotify and Meta. They are one of the global payment leaders and guarantee the safety and reliability of our payments infrastructure.
